The Sichuan Wenchuan earthquake ranks the most destructive and widely spread one since the founding of New China. The relief work is a fairly tough task for our country and with the deepening of the relief, reconstruction of the quake-stricken area becomes the focus. DUT President Ou Jinping, along with the rebuilding experts group of the Wenchuan Earthquake Expert Committee went to Sichuan quake-stricken area to investigate the current situation and carry out scientific research to support post-quake reconstruction plan.
Wenchuan Earthquake Expert Committee, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao and established immediately after the earthquake, is made up of academicians and experts in a diversity of subjects. DUT President Ou Jinping is a member of it. Under the leadership of the Emergency Headquarters of the State Council, the expert committee is mainly in charge of assessing the condition, carrying out scientific research and providing scientific basis for the relief work and rebuilding of the quake-hit area.
